This Week on the Ridge

As we begin to wind down the school year, both academics and fun remain in full swing at Oak Ridge! Students spent the week engaged in meaningful learning experiences, including outdoor learning activities, poetry celebrations, writing fairs, and opportunities to showcase their creativity and hard work. It has been wonderful to see students continuing to learn, grow, and celebrate their accomplishments as the year comes to a close.

One of the highlights of the week was our special Flag Day celebration, which featured Oak Ridge's very first Grade 5 Color Guard. Students, staff, and community members came together to honor this important day through crafts, music, special activities, and community celebration. A heartfelt thank you goes to the many volunteers and community members who helped make the event possible, with a special shoutout to Sue Maciel for her dedication and hard work in creating such a memorable experience for our students and school community.

We would also like to recognize several staff members who were honored at last night's Employee Recognition celebration. Congratulations and best wishes to our retirees: Lisa Cahill (Adapted Physical Education Teacher), Lynn Demanche (ESP), and Erin Mooney (Physical Education Teacher). We thank them for their years of service and wish them all the best in retirement! We also congratulate Lynn Manning and Ben Healy for 15 years of service; ; Deb Stanton for 20 years; Molly Hood, Yvonne Hunt, Christine Skirvan, and Sharon Dumas for 25 years of service; Cheryl Rider for 30 years! We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, commitment, and positive impact each of these staff members has had on our students, school, and community.

Marigold of the Week

Simon Roy, Building Substitute

You consistently show what it means to be a marigold through your kindness, inclusivity, and genuine care for others. You create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Your willingness to jump right in and help, no matter the situation, makes a meaningful difference to the team. You stay flexible and positive, adapting with ease and encouraging those around you to do the same. Your actions uplift others and help our classroom thrive.

Plant a Seed, Read
2026 Summer Reading Program

The Plant a Seed, Read Summer Reading Program is for pre-readers (birth to Kindergarten) and readers entering K–6th grades. Our goal is to encourage children to enjoy reading throughout the summer by issuing this reading challenge:

“30 Minutes a Day, 5 Days a Week, for 8 Weeks!”

Registered readers receive a reading log and special stickers to track their daily progress. Bring your reading log to the Children’s Room once a week to receive a weekly prize. Earn tickets toward prize drawings at the end of the summer by bringing in your reading log every week and by attending Children’s or Family events.

Bring in your log between Friday, August 1st and Saturday, August 16th to sign up the whole family for the Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 18th!
