Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students and families wishing to apply for financial aid for college must complete the FAFSA. The application is used to determine the dollar amount you or your family will be expected to contribute towards college. All federal grant and loan awards are determined by the FAFSA and nearly all colleges use the FAFSA as the basis for their own financial aid awards.
The CCS Profile is the financial aid application service of the College Board. Many colleges, universities and scholarship programs use the information collected on PROFILE to help them award non-federal student aid. The PROFILE can be completed beginning October 1st. Not all schools require the CSS/Profile, be sure to check with the schools you are applying to.
The FAFSA Forecaster will help you understand your options for paying for college. Provide basic information and the forecaster will estimate your eligibility for federal student aid. Your estimate will be shown in the "College Cost Worksheet" where you can also provide and estimated amounts of other student aid and savings that can go towards your college education.
Additional Information for the Financial Aid Process:
Scholarships
General Application Scholarship

Summer Programs & Gap Years
Student Summer Programs: If your child is interested in pursuing a summer program, there are many opportunities for enrichment, skill development and/or college credit taking place on college campuses across the U.S.
For a general idea of what is available, a simple online search for "summer programs for high school students" will get you started.
For something more specific, such as an area of specialty, conduct a search such as "summer art programs for high school students".
Gap Year: A "Gap Year" is a period between completing high school and beginning college. This time can either be a semester or a full year away from traditional classroom studies. Gap years come in all shapes and sizes. They include participating in organized Gap year programs abroad or domestically, working in a field of interest, civil service in the military or a nation service organization, pursuing arts or athletics, and traveling the world as a tourist.
When it comes to choosing a gap year program, there are so many options: you can choose pre-made gap year programs, combine short-term programs, or make your own custom experience at home or abroad (or both).
