This Week on the Ridge

This week on the Ridge, MCAS has officially concluded! We are incredibly proud of all of our students for their hard work, perseverance, and positive attitudes throughout the testing season.

This week also brought some wonderful moments of joy to our mornings as students and staff were welcomed into the building by the sounds of our student musicians performing in the lobby. From the strings ensemble earlier in the week to the guitar ensemble, the music created such an uplifting atmosphere to begin the day. A huge thank you to Mr. Healy for organizing these performances!

We marked the exciting conclusion of our year-long trout project! Throughout the year, students learned about trout life cycles, habitats, environmental stewardship, and the importance of protecting our ecosystems. Mrs. Skirvan and Mr. Schmich, along with a team of students, celebrated this meaningful learning experience by releasing the trout into the wild at Oak Crest Cove. We are so grateful to Mrs. Skirvan and Mr. Schmich for the tremendous amount of time, care, and expertise they dedicated to making this project such a success for our students!

We were also excited to celebrate the second annual “Art Chopped! Final” 5th Grade Competition at Oak Ridge. Throughout the school year, each 5th grade homeroom participated in a fast-paced and friendly art competition, all leading up to the final event. Congratulations to Mrs. Hunt’s class for earning the title of this year’s winning team! Thank you to Mrs. Ganju and Ms. Smith for organizing this exciting event for our students!

Fifth graders showcased their Revolutionary War Biography projects this morning! Seeing the range of displays, hearing the students' learning, and celebrating in the success of students' projects was a real highlight! Thank you, grade five teachers, for organizing this great learning experience and showcase for the students.

Please join us! On Wednesday, May 27, from 4:30–5:30 PM, Sandwich Public Schools will host its 3rd Annual Deeper Learning Expo in the SMHS gymnasium. Come see students share their work and tell you about their learning. Projects span grade levels and subject areas across the district, including the new SMHS Career Pathways program. We hope to see you there!
