SMHS DECA Competes at the States

A group of ten Sandwich Middle High School wearing matching black t-shirts with 'DECA' printed on them stand together in front of a large window overlooking a city at night.
Ten DECA members attended the 67th Massachusetts DECA Career Development Conference in Boston last weekend. This was the largest conference in Massachusetts DECA history with over 4,200 attendees. Sandwich students competed in role-plays and quiz bowl, networked with exhibitors from colleges and businesses, and explored the Seaport area.

Congratulations to the ten DECA students who attended the conference. Pictured above left to right: Ethan Fife, Cotter Bolton, Nathan deBlank, Joseph Watters, Ty Creighton, Abigail Cotter, Elyse Giannakoulis, Livvy Frost, Jenna Fay and Brianna Prindle.

Congratulations to senior, Breanna Prindle, who was a finalist in her competitive event category, Food Marketing, and finished top-10 in the state!

Special thanks to Mr. Ben Gavoni for his leadership and guidance as the SMHS DECA advisor.

Oak Ridge Students Build Bikes for Forestdale

Students at Oak Ridge School have partnered with Sandwich Recreation and Sandwich's RideAway Adventures to launch a Bicycle Maintenance Club, creating an authentic, hands-on learning experience with a meaningful impact across our district.

As part of this initiative, Oak Ridge students have taken on the responsibility of building brand-new bicycles that will be used by Forestdale students in an upcoming spring physical education unit focused on balance and bike riding. This work not only builds technical skills, but also fosters pride, collaboration, and a strong sense of contribution to their school community.

On Monday, March 16th, students were hard at work assembling bikes at RideAway Adventures in downtown Sandwich, demonstrating focus, teamwork, and problem-solving throughout the process.

This is a powerful example of our community coming together to support student learning and opportunity. A sincere thank you to Sandwich Recreation, RideAway Adventures (owner and former SHS graduate Mike Morrison and David Mulligan), and Sandwich School Committee Chairman and biking enthusiast Kevin Sareault, who generously shared their time and expertise to guide students through the bike assembly process

Sandwich Middle High School was so well represented at the 72nd Annual All State Music Festival this weekend! The culminating event was a choral performance Friday eveningt at the historic Hanover Theatre.

The eight SMHS advanced choir students, Daytona Pearson, Ella Avitabile, Jane Malcomson, Natalie Ring, Marty Mulroy, Cameron Phillips, Brendan Cronin, and Henry Muhlebach (pictured above) had a wonderful inspirational experience this weekend at the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Music Conference and Festival!

Updated SPS Calendar for 2025-26

As of today, there have been a total of seven (7) snow days in the Sandwich Public Schools for the current 2025-26 school year. Five of those days occurred during the week of February 22, when we were in the midst and aftermath of the Blizzard of '26. As a result, we have had to adjust the 2025-26 school year calendar to meet the state's 180 instructional days requirement. There will be no adjustment to the senior class' end-of-year schedule; the graduation ceremony for the SMHS Class of 2026 will still occur on Saturday, June 6.

The last day for all students in grades PK-11 will be Thursday, June 25. It will be a half-day. The updated SPS calendar may be found at this link.
