Oak Ridge School held its third annual Math Fact Super Bowl on February 13 to build multiplication automaticity in a fun, schoolwide event. The competition turns practice into a spirited game-day experience. The Oak Ridge Multipurpose Room featured football-themed decorations, student commentators, a mascot appearance, a coin toss, and musical performances.
All grades competed in teams representing the A and B sides of the school. Three students per homeroom, along with each class’s fastest math fact student, answered multiplication flashcards in timed “quarters.” Correct answers advanced players down a football-style field until they scored. Students also volunteered as commentators, scorekeepers, coin-tossers, and commercial actors.
School-themed commercials, filmed by technology specialist Amy Kneller, entertained the audience between quarters. In total, 96 players participated. Team B won the fifth-grade title, earning the Lombardi Trophy and rings. Many thanks to Oak Ridge Math Instructional Coach Susan Maciel for creating this fun and spiriting event that builds community!
