Sandwich All District Musicians Shine

A group of ten young people and one adult woman pose for a photo in front of a wooden wall.
A huge congratulations is in order to the Sandwich Middle High School Music Department! Ten SMHS music students traveled up to Grafton High School yesterday to audition for the Massachusetts Music Educators All State Music Festival, and 8 out of the 10 students made it into the All State Mixed Choir and the All State Treble Choir! This is the biggest number of singers that we've had make it into the festival, as each year we have doubled our representation at this prestigious festival.

Along with Choral Director Melinda Lasit, students that are pictured and auditioned yesterday are the following:
Ella Avitabile  (choral student)
Brendan Cronin (choral student)
Jane Malcomson (choral student)
Henry Muhlebach (choral student)
Marty Mulroy (choral student)
Daytona Pearson (choral student)
Cameron Phillips (choral student)
Natalie Ring (choral student)
Dan Flynn  (instrumental student)
Klay Warriner (choral student)

Kudos to these talented students who will perform in the All Cape Music Festival: on Friday & Saturday, February 6-7 at Barnstable High School!

SMHS Earns Gold Honor Holl Status

AP School Honor Roll 2025 award with a gold acorn emblem.
The administration of Sandwich Middle High School is pleased to announce that SMHS has been named to the College Board's AP (Advanced Placement) School Honor Roll for the 2024-2025 school year, earning the prestigious title of a Gold Honor Roll School.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that deliver strong results across three key areas: increasing student participation in AP courses, ensuring students earn college-credit-qualifying scores, and fostering a college culture. The cxriteria for this award is the following:
  • College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school. (For SMHS it was 65%)
  • College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school. (For SMHS it was 49%)
  • College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th (grade, so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year. (For SMHS it was 15%)

Sandwich Middle High School's status places the school among an elite group nationwide meeting these benchmarks. Of the current senior class, the Class of 2026, 65% of students have accessed at least one AP course during their four high school years.

This recognition serves as both an affirmation of current success and a motivation to continue providing academic pathways that prepare students for college and beyond.

The Great Kindness Challenge

This week the Forestdale and Oak Ridge Schools are proudly participating in The Great Kindness Challenge, a week-long program dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion in communities worldwide. Below are graphics for Forestdale and Oak Ridge, respectively, that depict activities for each day this week.

To help our students practice kindness and put their compassion into action, they will receive a Great Kindness Challenge checklist.

We will encourage all students to complete as many acts of kindness as possible at school and hope they feel inspired to continue them at home.

Together, let’s lift each other up, cheer each other on and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!

New Episode of "The Dungeon" Released

Two students sit at a desk in front of a screen displaying "The Dungeon Home of the Blue Knights" logo.
The SMHS Sports Broadcasting class has released the second episode of The Dungeon, and it puts the spotlight on the stories shaping winter athletics.

In this episode, students take a closer look at the Blue Knights boys hockey program, which features four sets of brothers. The segment highlights how family connections are helping build chemistry, accountability, and success on the ice.

The show then shifts from the rink to the classroom, featuring student-athletes who are proving that success doesn’t stop when the final buzzer sounds. These students are balancing the demands of competitive sports while continuing to excel academically.

The episode concludes with Morgan’s Message, a powerful segment focused on mental health awareness and the importance of supporting one another across all SMHS teams.

The episode may be accessed at this link. Another strong production by our Sports Broadcasting students that captures the heart of Blue Knight athletics. Go Knights!
