FRIENDSGIVING is a special tradition hosted by the students in our Life Skills classroom, bringing peers together and strengthening connections across the school community.
The event is also a chance for students to share their gratitude with their teachers, classmates and teammates in unified sports, clubs, and classes.
The Friendsgiving luncheon is always filled with good conversation, fun games, and plenty of desserts, making it a truly meaningful celebration of community and gratitude.

Erin Hurley, SMHS Class of 2013, visited Mr. Amaral’s Sports & Broadcasting class to share valuable insights from an impressive career in sports media. Hurley began at Sandwich Community Television and has since covered the Olympics, both the Men’s and Women’s World Cups, and worked across major organizations including MLB, NHL, NFL, NCAA, FOX, and ESPN.
Hurley now serves as the Director of Broadcast Operations for the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) and is recognized as a leader in the continued growth of women’s sports.
Students walked away not just with industry tips, but with inspiring lessons from Hurley’s path—wisdom that will help shape their futures in sports media and wherever their passions lead.
Thank-you to Erin for inspiring the next generation of Blue Knight storytellers!

Eighth grade art students have been diving into two artistic techniques: paper marbling (hydro dipping) and two-point perspective drawing—and combining them into one imaginative final project
.
Students first created their own marbled papers using swirling inks and water, experimenting with color placement, gentle movement, and dipping techniques to produce unique patterns. They then incorporated those marbled designs into 2-point perspective tree houses, adding vibrant pops of color to roofs, clouds, and landscapes.
The results are fantastic! Each piece blends technical drawing skills with expressive, one-of-a-kind marbled textures... a perfect mix of creativity, craftsmanship, and fun!

Our 8th graders enjoyed a series of hilarious Minute-to-Win-It–style games during a recent Knight Time.
Students were randomly selected to compete in challenges such as:
- Stacking cups while blindfolded
- Scooping up marshmallows using only plastic cups on their hands
- Racing to roll up toilet paper the fastest
It was a fun, spirited way to foster community and celebrate teamwork!

The SMHS Environmental Club took a trip to Town Neck Beach after school before Thanksgiving break with two goals in mind: searching for cold-stunned sea turtles and helping clean up the shoreline.
November and December are peak months for juvenile sea turtles to become cold-stunned and wash ashore along Cape Cod Bay, so students walked the beach carefully, ready to assist and alert Mass Audubon if one was found. While no turtles were spotted this time, the group did collect trash and enjoyed beachcombing on a warm fall afternoon.
A great day of learning, teamwork, and caring for our local environment!

Students in Mr. Welch’s United States History I class have been diving into the Constitution and taking ownership of their learning. Working in cooperative groups or independently, students selected a topic connected to the Constitutional Convention, such as major components of the Constitution, delegate profiles, or timelines of key events. Each group created a one-page, 300-word infographic, balancing text with visuals to present information clearly and creatively.
As classmates presented their work, peers used simple feedback forms to share observations, questions, and suggestions. The process was informal, supportive, and designed to help students grow as researchers, communicators, and critical thinkers.
