PTA Fun Run Takes Off

Forestdale kindergarteners and staff participate in an outdoor fun run on a sunny, beautiful day in the Forestdale playing field.
Friday, October 24 marked the first of the two annual "Fun Run" events sponsored by the Sandwich Elementary PTA. Throughout this month Forestdale and Oak Ridge students have been raising money to support the many fine programs sponsored by Sandwich Elementary PTA. The Forestdale event featured 25 minutes of running, walking, skipping, or dancing with friends for each class, all while being entertained by local social media influencer and host JT Chronicles. It was an outstanding day of fun, movement, and school spirit! This Friday, October 31, will mark Oak Ridge's Fun Run event.

Many thanks to the dedicated parents of the Elementary PTA who work hard to make this event a success! For more info, please click on this link.

Oak Ridge Student Recognized by SFD

Sixth grader Maliah Gonzalez and her mother pose with a certificate alongside Sandwich Fire Safety Officer Andrew Mandel, standing in the cafeteria of the Oak Ridge School.
Last week Oak Ridge 6th grader Maliah Gonzalez, was honored by the Sandwich Fire Department for her quick thinking during a recent flash fire in her home. Maliah bravely called 911 and evacuated her sister and dog to the front yard safely. This event happened literally the day after the SFD's usual educational presentation to 6th grade students on the importance of fire plan safety. Maliah was honored by SFD Fire Prevention Officer Andrew Mandel (pictured above with Maliah and her mom). Maliah and her homeroom were also treated to a pizza party, courtesy of the SFD. Many thanks to Chief JJ Burke, Officer Mandel, and the whole SFD for the proactive work they do with our students.

At SMHS, the Colonial Congress Lives

Teacher Mike Welch, in Revolutionary War era garb, sits in his classroom listening to his US History students debate.
Students in Mr. Welch's classroom debate details of the Colonial Congress. Some are seated at tables, others are listening.
Students in Sandwich Middle High School History Teacher Mike Welch's US History class stepped back in time and reenacted the Massachusetts Provincial Congress — the governing body that led the colony on the eve of the American Revolution. Mr. Welch made history come alive by arriving in full 1700s revolutionary attire, complete with coat, breeches, and cocked hat.

During the reenactment, students took on the roles of historical figures, debated issues facing colonial Massachusetts, and experienced firsthand how ordinary citizens shaped the birth of a new nation. The immersive activity blended history, performance, and civic understanding — giving students a memorable glimpse into the spirit of revolution that defined America’s earliest leaders.
