Safety First at SMHS!

Students and bus drivers participated in our annual bus evacuation drills last week. Everyone did a fantastic job following directions and practicing safe procedures.
Thank you to our transportation team and students for helping keep our school community safe and prepared!

Innovation Meets Collaboration in the New Computer Science Space

SMHS’s new Computer Science Collaboration classroom is designed to bring creativity, teamwork, and real-world learning to life. The flexible space features dual SmartBoards that allow for interactive lessons and live video conferences with industry professionals.
Equipped with laptops running Visual Studio, students can engage in hands-on programming experiences that prepare them for future studies and careers in computer science.

Unified Art Spreads Halloween Spirit!

Students in Unified Art have been working together to create beautiful seasonal projects while building meaningful friendships in Ms. Franks’ class. Their creativity and teamwork are on full display in this festive Halloween exhibit in the SMHS lobby.

Craftsmanship Takes Flight in Woodworking

Wood Technology I students put their skills to work designing and constructing one-of-a-kind birdhouses. This project encouraged each student to showcase their creativity while applying the shop techniques they’ve developed throughout the course. Checkout the impressive craftsmanship and imagination of our SMHS builders!

From Sketch to Screen: Building Strong Visual Foundations

Students in Design I are diving into Adobe Photoshop where they’re developing foundational skills in color use, image editing, and font selection.
Over the past week, students have transformed their initial sketches into thoughtful compositions that demonstrate strong layout and grid structure—ensuring their final designs are visually balanced, easy to read, and effective.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

A STELLAR JOURNEY: SCHULTZ'S PATH FROM SMHS TO NASA

TYLER SCHULTZ graduated from SMHS in 2020. He went on to study at the University of Central Florida in Orlando where he received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. During his time at UCF, Tyler gained valuable experience by working at the Florida Space Institute as a laboratory assistant. The laboratory focused on microgravity experiments which allowed Tyler and his colleagues to study the origins and formation of celestial bodies within our solar system and beyond.

He was also a member of the Knights Experimental Rocketry club where he used his skills to help design, build, and launch the first ever hybrid-propellant rocket in UCF history.

Tyler is also actively pursuing his Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering at UCF with a focus on Thermofluid Aerodynamic Systems Design & Engineering.

Tyler was hired in May 2025 by NASA’s primary contracting partner, Amentum. He
works at the historic Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island as a Liquid Oxygen
Mechanical Engineer. Tyler and his team are responsible for processing, testing,
maintaining, and operating the liquid oxygen system that fuels NASA’s super heavy-lift
launch vehicle, the Space Launch System, and the ground support equipment at Launch
Pad 39B. NASA’s new Artemis program will utilize the Space Launch System to establish a
permanent lunar base and reestablish a human presence on the Moon for the first time
since the Apollo missions.

The next mission, Artemis II, is scheduled for spring 2026 and will launch four NASA astronauts into space for a 10-day journey that will include a lunar flyby and testing of the Orion crew module. This mission is in preparation for Artemis III which will land astronauts on the Moon for the first time since 1972.

Ooh LA LA CREPE BAR!

Photo of members of the French Club standing at the Crepe Bar making crepes.
Photo of a student smiling holding a plate with her just made crepe!
On Thursday afternoon, the French Club quietly staged a cultural takeover: one movie, one mountain of crêpes, and exactly the right amount of maple syrup diplomacy.
Photo of a delicious crepe covered in powdered sugar and chocolate syrup with strawberries and a banana.
Each student brought a filling: strawberries, whipped cream, chocolate chips, bananas, even some bold savory options; creating what can only be described as a do-it-yourself crêpe bar that would make a French grandmother proud. Between bites, members of the club practiced a few words in French: “Bonjour,” “s’il te plaît,” “merci”. There was also important vocabulary like la crêpe (the crêpe), le sirop (the syrup), and le bonheur (pure happiness).

The club managed to turn language learning into something warm, funny, and real — not just verbs on paper, but culture you can taste!

DECA JUDGES NEEDED!
