Partnership with Lesley University Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative
Literacy in the Sandwich Public Schools is supported by our involvement in the Lesley University Literacy Collaborative. The Lesley Literacy Collaborative is a model for comprehensive school reform and is distinguished as a long-term professional development program designed to provide a school-wide approach to literacy instruction in kindergarten through grade eight and beyond. The goal of the program, and the goals of the Sandwich Public Schools, is to assure successful literacy achievement for every child.
The Lesley Literacy Collaborative helps schools achieve successful literacy education in four ways:
- Provides a research-based model that is student-centered, language-based, and process oriented
- Creates in-school and in-district leadership through school-based leadership teams and literacy coordinator
- Establishes long-term site-based professional development for every member of the elementary school staff
- Monitors the progress of all students through systematic assessment, data collection, and analysis
