The English Language Arts program is dedicated to developing skills in communication, critical and creative thinking, writing, speaking, listening, and reading. Students will develop 21st century skills that will provide them with essential tools and a critical vocabulary to analyze, discuss, and write for a variety of
purposes. Students will be involved in discovery and inquiry as teachers employ a wide range of strategies to build students’ communication skills. .All students learn persuasive and expository writing techniques, and will write at least one research paper per year, increasing in complexity from one grade to the next. The selection of texts for all students is designed to provide students with exposure to literature of a variety of genres and time periods and includes fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry, and short stories.
All students are required to complete and pass four semesters of English in order to graduate.
