Welcome to the Forestdale School. We are happy you are here. It is an exciting time for you and your child as they get ready to start kindergarten. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible and to provide you with all the information that you need to be ready for the first day of school.

Registration Process & Timeline

On March 7, 2019 from 6:30-7:30 we will hold our annual Kindergarten Information night.

What is Kindergarten Information Night? It is a time for you to meet our Principal Chris Dintino and Assistant Principal Sarah Murray. You will hear about the Forestdale School and the vision that we have and strive to teach by. Parents and Caregivers will learn about the process that they will go through the next few weeks and months to prepare themselves and their child to be ready for the first day of school.

At this time we will also have a brief overview of the curriculum and schedules of Kindergarten. Several teachers may be available this evening to answer questions.

Is there an age requirement for Kindergarten?

Yes, Sandwich Public Schools has a policy on school entrance age, which requires students to be five-years-old prior to September 1st.

Why does my child have a Kindergarten Screening?

A screening is required by Massachusetts Chapter 766 State Law. This screening is not used to determine a students readiness for kindergarten but a a tool for our school to "discover" and special learning needs a student may have.

Does my child need a physical to attend school?

Yes your child needs a current physical done between September 2018 and start of school 2019.

What is the immunization requirement for school attendance?

5 doses of Dtap/DTP vaccine

4 doses of OPV (polio vaccine)

3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine

2 doses of MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) vaccine

2 doses of Varivax (or documentation of having chicken pox)

How long is the Kindergarten day?

Our day at the Forestdale School begins at 9:00am and ends at 3:30pm.

Are the before and after school programs offered?

Yes before and after school care is provided by The School for Early Learning.

How does the lunch program work?

Students can purchase lunch (if they chose) from our cafeteria. Lunch costs for the 2018-19 school year were $2.65. After the first day of school Kindergarten student will be able to set up their lunch account at myschoolbucks.com once a lunch account number has been assigned to them.

How do I volunteer at the Forestdale School?

To volunteer at the Forestdale School you must first stop by the Main office and bring in your license and fill out a CORI form prior to any volunteering work.

How do I visit/enter the school during school hours?

You must check in at the main office during school hours. If it is your first visit to the Forestdale School you will need to bring your license to be entered to our visitor management system.

How does the Forestdale School communicate with Parents/Guardians?

At the Forestdale School we try to communicate with parents in the most efficient and effective manner. We use the Forestdale Elementary Facebook Page and Our Virtual Backpack (https://www.sandwichk12.org/schools/forestdale-sch...)to communicate our daily notices and events. Email correspondence is used when there are messages from the Principal or from the School Community. In the case of an unexpected school closing or event we will communicate via phone messaging system.

How do teachers communicate with Parents/Guardians?

Each teacher chooses the what works best for them to communicate best with parents.
