All-Day Safety Training

All-Day Safety Training

We are pleased to announce that the district conducted professional development for all SPS professional and support staff  in the area of safety training on Friday, January 13. The day entailed presentations by both the Sandwich Fire Department and the Sandwich Police Department. The day was split in two, where half the day was dedicated to ALICE training, an active shooter response training delivered with a trauma-informed approach in an age- and ability- appropriate way. This training was facilitated by members of the Sandwich PD and the Mashpee School Resource Officer. The other half of the day was dedicated to training in “Stop the Bleed” and hands-only CPR. This invaluable first aid training was planned and delivered by representatives of the Sandwich Fire Department. The feedback that we received from staff based upon end of day surveys was very positive.  We are grateful for the commitment and partnership of our community’s public safety.

The day was only the first step of the process. The District Safety Team reconvened on Thursday, January 19  to discuss the feedback, the perceived areas of need, and to begin planning for ALICE and evacuation/reunification drills through the second semester of this school year. We will communicate all details with students and families in advance of drills that will be undertaken.
