The Sandwich Public Schools offers a continuum of services to students with disabilities. Each building has created programs that accommodate the developmental needs of the child as well as the grade level demands of curriculum and instruction. Special education teams at each building provide services to students in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) who meet the eligibility criteria set by the state and federal guidelines. Services are provided by Special Education Teachers, Related Service Providers (Speech and Language Specialists, Occupational Therapists, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist, Social Workers, BCBAs), and Education Support Personnel (ESPs) under the supervision of licensed staff. In addition, students may also receive interventions provided general education staff.
Services are provided within the context of the regular education classroom whenever possible. A small percentage of students who require specialized instruction in a separate setting attend collaborative or private special education programs. The Special Education Procedural Manual is
available online. Please contact the Special Education Department Head assigned to each building if you have additional questions.
