  • professional development for staff

RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM

"The Responsive Classroom approach to teaching emphasizes academic, social, and emotional growth in a strong school community. We believe that how children learn is as important as what they learn, and that academic success is inextricably tied to building social-emotional competencies. We provide K-8 educators with practical training and resources to help create safe and joyful classrooms and schools where children can thrive. "- from the RC website

In Sandwich, we have provided week-long Responsive Classroom course for teachers and administrators during the summer. We have also provided a specialized Classroom Management class. ESPs in the district received Responsive Classroom PD from Deb Landry and Chris Dintino during the 2013-2014 school year.

SOCIAL THINKING

"Our Mission: to explore the abstract nature of the social world and to teach how others can improve their social interpretation and social competencies using concretely defined frameworks and strategies. We help each person develop their social self-awareness, perspective taking, and social self-management skills to meet their personal goals. Social goals can include helping children to learn to relate to others, to work effectively as part of a team, and to learn effectively as part of a group." - from the Social Thinking website

Sandwich Public Library

Sandwich Public Library

The partnership that we enjoy with the Sandwich Public Library is one of the most impactful and supportive for all children in Sandwich.

The Summer Reading Program, which is sponsored by Sandwich Kiwanis, inspires students to continue with the reading habit we work so hard to instill during the school year.

The special reading superpowers come from Mr. Parsons and Ms. Johson. We are thankful for them every day in Sandwich.
